working SQL databases

G'Day !

My application is using a Postgresql database for data storage and retrieval.
It will all be managed by the program and invisible to the end-user.  I have
been looking at Gtksql as an example and the sample programs that came with
database documentation, but questions remain.

Does any one know where I can get sample code to look at, that does this type of
thing ?

Basically I am interested in 3 functions,  1) Creating the db and associated
tables.  2)  Population of tables from internal data structures as end-user
interacts with program.  3)  Retreiving data from an existing database and
population of data structures on program start-up.
