Is there a repository where I can find the latest stable gThumb or
(almost better) is there a .deb file I can download?
More recent (2.13.90) packages are available here:

You can also compile from git, if you feel adventurous
(https://live.gnome.org/gthumb/development).
Please file bug reports against Debian and Ubuntu. They shouldn't be
using obsolete unstable versions!
