In trunk, that problem was addressed by going into the last used
destination folder (normally the one corresponding to the most recently
taken photos.) I thought it worked pretty well.
On the other hand the catalog allows you to view all the imported images
at once, furthermore a catalog is created for each creation date of the
imported files, so you get an automatic organization by the date the
photos were taken and the date the photos were imported.
The general idea is that the user shouldn't care about the location of
the files on the filesystem, he just needs to organize the files using
the catalogs.
Yes, I understand the idea, and I personally can probably get used to it.
However, some people will be very upset, because gThumb is so nice for
manipulating simple folders (whereas F-Spot forces things into albums).
They will be annoyed at the use of catalogs when folders would do.
It would be nice to accommodate the folders-only style of workflow too.
