I have attached screenshot of the area in Gnumeric window at the

Any idea how I can resize this area or get rid of it completely?
The region in question is the status bar that shows various messages
when you open or save files, select menu items etc.
There is a dragable separator to change the space allocation for it, but
I think you know that.

This response seems to miss the point. I also find it troublesome to
have a workbook reopened showing only a few of the available sheets, so
I would like to give my interpretation of Kishan Bhat's question.
Is there any way to set a preference for the number of tabs showing
sheets in a workbook? Alternatively, can tabs for some sheets be hidden
in a way that persists when the workbook is closed and reopened?
