new control to the left of the spreadsheet tabs

a recent update to gnumeric 1.9.4 seems to have moved the status bar
to the left of the sheet tabs (i believe it used to be underneath the
tabs so the change frees up screen real estate, which i like)

i use workbooks that have quite a few sheets and now the status bar
control obscures more of them than i like.

i now have to resize the status bar each time i open a new gnumeric window.

can gnumeric be updated so that the size is remembered, either per
session or per workbook?

this is probably more complicated than it sounds, having to take into
account changes to screen size, window size, etc.  i just hate having
another step to perform before i get to work.
