this is not part of the gnumeric code base but a part of gnomeprint. Which version of gnomeprint are you using anyways? (Just for the record, this works fine for me.)
The print dialog would be much less error-prone if every option in that dialog could have a default value taken from a .conf file in either the user's home directory or from the directory holding the file to be printed (or both).
Under cups the gnomeprint library essentially tries to do that. Andreas
