problem compiling gnumeric-1.3.92

Hi all,

When I compile gnumeric, I get a bunch of error messages concerning perl
like:
/usr/lib/perl5/5.8.5/i386-linux-thread-multi/CORE/perl.h:1970:24:
unixish.h: No such file or directory
In file included from ./perl.c:8:
/usr/lib/perl5/5.8.5/i386-linux-thread-multi/CORE/perl.h:2286: error:
syntax error before "I32"
/usr/lib/perl5/5.8.5/i386-linux-thread-multi/CORE/perl.h:2286: warning:
no semicolon at end of struct or union
/usr/lib/perl5/5.8.5/i386-linux-thread-multi/CORE/perl.h:3751: error:
storage size of `PL_vtbl_utf8' isn't known

Is there a way to disable Perl support?
I tried:
./configure --without-perl
./configure --disable-perl
but the Perl support is still there and I cannot compile gnumeric.
