my version of gnumeric was updated by debian's apt-get, and now the
arrow keys have a very annoying different behavior.

instead of changing the active cell (moving the active cell left, right
up or down), they change the entire view of the spreadsheet. for
instance, if cell A1 - Q1 are visible along the top row and i press
right arrow, cells B1 - R1 become visible.

is there a way to get the arrow keys back to their original
functionality?

Your 'scroll lock' keyboard modifier has been set.

sorry about that. i'm not sure how it happened. scroll lock got set
somehow and wouldn't unset. i had to restart the X server and
everything went back to normal.

sorry about that. :(
