gnumeric 1.0.5-5 is displaying in a weird way

  under the new red hat limbo beta, which incorporates the
gnumeric-1.0.5-5 RPM, when i open a data file built from the
previous gnumeric, what i get is the original data, but with
dotted boxes displayed between every pair of characters.

  in addition, some numeric fields are displayed full of the
'#' character, again with intervening dotted boxes between the
characters.

  is there a quick setting fix for this?  i can email someone
a short file that shows this if they need an example.  thanks.
