I finally got it running, with the help of David Kaelbling from freeware support of SGI.
The gnome-print for IRIX installs a script made by David for solving the fontmap problem.
After gnome-print installation, we run exitop(the script) which creates one fontmap file in the following path
/usr/freeware/share/fonts/fontmap.
First, I removed LC_ALL and set LANG to en_US.
After getting gnumeric running, I also tried to see the Gnome environment in action. Unfortunately, I
couldn't. Some
more errors arose.
After running gnome-session, a pretty window popup. In the progress bar, I see gnome-wm, after gnome-panel
and finally
gnome-rm. Then, the splash window closes.
A few time after, two more windows appear. One looks like a Help system and the other is a startup hints
window.
The problem comes after.
A warning window with the next content appears:
"Warning: panel
No response to the SaveYourself command. The program may be slow, stopped or broken.
You may wait for it to respond or remove it."
Each time I press the "Cancel" button on the window, it popups again a few seconds latter. Then, after some
popups, I
press the "Remove Program" button, and the window closes.
Another warning window appears, with the next content:
"Warning: gnome-help-browser--sm-client-id(a big number here)
No response to the SaveYourself command. The program may be slow, stopped or broken.
You may wait for it to respond or remove it."
Again, each time I press the "Cancel" button on the window, it popups again a few seconds latter. Then, after
some
popups, I press the "Remove Program" button, and the window closes.
The window that I described as a help system is still blocked on top, with some fogged content on it.
What is missing? One more package? I have installed almost everything of GNOME.
What do I need to get GNOME running?
I would like to express my greetings to everyone that could help me in getting this job done.

Best Regards
jvilhena
