Re: Not a valid text file

Dear John,

I've been exporting and importing comma-separated-value (csv) files in gnumeric
for some time now, up through various versions up to the current 0.56 that I'm

import csv files. Basically, after selecting the file, as usual I tell it to
"Text File Import", press "OK" and it comes back with the following error
message:"Could not import file home/j.... This file does not seem to be a valid
text file".

I've even tried opening old gnumeric spreadsheets and exporting them as csv
files, and I can't even open these ones? Has anyone else run into this same
problem? How can I get back into the csv file business?

This seems odd, maybe you could try Gnumeric 0.57 see what results you
get there.
Gnumeric 0.57 will at least tell you on what character it bases the
conclusion that
the file you are trying to import is not a valid text file.

If you have recently changed your system locale this also has influence
in the validation check that is run right before a file is actually
imported.
So maybe that is causing your troubles....

Yours sincerely,
