That helped a little. I switch XMMS to OSS output to see if OSS
emulation is set up correctly. The advanced config in XMMS reveals that
the OSS device /dev/sound/dsp is actually usb-audio, i.e. my webcam.
This only has a mic, which explains why GM can't open the device for

But I don't understand why, if adsp is my PCI sound card, dsp is USB.
What is the connection there? I guess I should join the ALSA list for
this, but I thought I may as well quickly ask here.
