Usually not. Alsa has an oss compatibility layer, there shouldn't be any
problems with that. Debian alsa has optimized packages, such esound-alsa
or libarts-alsa.
There is a serious bug in the latest alsa release (0.9 beta), that
prevents alsa from working with alsaconf in the Debian testing
distribution, be warned about this.
