We could have a translatable string that included a URL. Translators
could then change that URL in their translation, so that the German
version of the page has a www.gnome.de link at that place.

The gnome.org pages will just be translated. We don't need a subdomain
for this, though there will be a URL that will give you a specific
translation regardless of your browser's settings.
