Re: [GSoC] Message Tray for 3.2 - Weekly Reports

Hello!

The last few weeks were kind of flustering, I was shifting to new place and it was bit tough to settle down. I apologise for not sending
report as I didn't have anything working yet.

Week 8
-----------
I was studying things to work on implementing the body-hyperlinks, that the bug had the patch from someone! (I was late :p)

Week 9
-----------
I worked on displaying images for notifications and the patch is here . The patch right now has loopholes. The St.Table ignores the height-width preferences with col_span and row_span > 0. I will work on it to get the layout right.

Week 10
------------
I couldn't work much this week ( I screwed up with internet :p).

Week 11
------------
The past week, I invested my time in learning things to fix the Bug 643014 . I will try to get on it before it gets fixed :p
Also, I have few build issues which I will get rid off soon.

The coming week I will try to get the bugs Bug 643014 and Bug 621009 landed.

Thank you,
Neha

Week 7
-----------

Last week, I worked on DBus patch and it was committed. The issue here was that the dbus-glib implementation of watch_name() wasn't returning id that can be used by unwatch_name(). So, this patch isn't complete by itself. Also, this patch has issues with nautilus notifications as Marina pointed out in the bug (which are likely to be fixed).

This week, I will work on the bug 653033 . I am spending time in figuring out things to implement the body-hyperlinks. I will try to get this done soon.

Thank you,
Neha

Week 5 & 6
-----------------

The past week I invested my time amidst exams in switching to Fedora, setting up the environment, building gnome-shell on it. I couldn't manage to build the usual way. I learnt I had to do
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=~/gnome-shell/install/lib64/gnome-bluetooth ./gnome-shell --replace in order to run it.

I also studied the dbus concepts I need to fix the nautilus bug. This week I will work with Marina to improve the rhythmbox and
nautilus notifications handling. As for tracking the lifecycle of the applications, sender = DBus.getCurrentMessageContext().sender
can be passed to the DBus.session.watch_name() to watch the well_known names of the apps. I will try to get this work soon.

Thank you,
Neha

Week 2, 3 & 4
---------------------

I apologize for not sending the reports on time (I too was eaten off by exams :d). Nonetheless, I managed to fiddle around some things.

I have sent the patch for adding album art to rhythmbox notifications although they have to be staged properly [0]. The main issue was with the "image_path" or "image-path" hints. Rhythmbox sets image_path for image and not the image-data or image-path hints (Thanks to drago01 who helped me find this). Applications need to get updated with the notification specification 1.2 [1].

I strove to reproduce the bug [2] - Ubuntu uses the old status icons instead of the notification API, so the status icon and not the resident notifcation remained in the Message Tray (thanks to Salomon Sickert who was kind enough to help me on this). I tried to install the latest nautilus version too which was simply time consuming. Marina suggested me to switch over to Fedora instead of updating the whole lot of libraries to >= 3.0 . Now, finally on Fedora, I could reproduce the bug (I will try to get that to work soonish).

This week I will try to get some real coding done mainly on Nautilus and Empathy integration and be in time on reporting about my progress :)

Regards,
Neha

Did you modify it? If so, I think it'd be really useful if you could
publish your modified version.

Were you finally able to build GNOME Shell?

Cheers,
 Tobi

Hey Tobias!
Sorry for the late response. I didn't modify the script, just rebuilt them :)
