That's not surprising as a mind mapping application would not be
within evince's purview.
I gave you the wrong idea with the evince team, I proposed to add
support for CHM files and not mind mapping :-)
Evince doesn't seem like a good fit for CHM. Evince
is good for formats that have discrete pages, in the
static-size fit-for-printing sense.
If anybody is interested in working on CHM, then Yelp
is the place to do it. I'd mentor that.

Ohhh!!!, It would have been nice to know it earlier. I am already
excited with the mind mapping idea.
Somebody should remove CHM stuff at http://live.gnome.org/Evince/
SupportedDocumentFormats if Yelp is the right place.
