Hi all,
Apologies for the delayed report.
Last week, Federico and I started off by evaluating a patch[1] which I
thought could be useful for implementing the global desktop items.
However, this patch clogs up the user's ~/Desktop with a lot of
symlinks, so it was decided that I should implement the feature from
scratch, making the global items instances of the NauitlusDesktopLink
class instead.
I have already come up with a first iteration of a patch, which I have
sent to Federico for evaluation. I have a screenshot of the patch at
action at http://sayamindu.randomink.org/images/nautilus_global_items_01.png
(the last three items on the desktop are actually files in
/var/lib/gnome/desktop - and they are not removable from the Desktop,
ie the user can't delete the links).
Cheers,
Sayamindu
