beware: this report can be a bit long!

I was a bit late to introduce myself, .. had some uni. exams and events to go. So here I am ;)

__who am i ?__

I'm a 21 year old computer engineering student from Turkey, Canakkale (the place where Troya was before). This is my last year at school, and I'll move to Istanbul in a month.

I'm using GNOME since 2003, and my interests are ranging from ruby, cryptography, security and some artificial intelligence.

__why am i here?__

I'm going to make evolution to use seahorse widgets for encryption and key selection. Seahorse's cool DBUS api is also waiting me to add encryption details to contacts.

__report!__

So the most interesting part, report! Well, if i didn't have this creepy exams and school, i could do more about the project! First week of GSoC i was so excited and contact with Adam (cool Seahorse developer).  In following two weeks I was pulling my hair about exams. So 3 weeks of GSoC past away with just looking at some code pieces of Seahorse, DBUS api and some bugs. And last week, I had to go 600 km's away (Ankara, capital city of Turkey) for the biggest FOSS event in Turkey.

I was a speaker in a panel called: "Women in Computing: Career to the Life". Other speakers were two Profs from METU and Bilkent Universities, and a business woman who rewarded as one of the most successfull business woman of the world by United Nations. I talked a bit about academic and social life of a woman computer engineering student, and then I talked about advantages and disadvantages of being a woman in free software and Linux community. (imho being in free software is one of the best area to be interested in and work for a woman - as sharing and helping are keywords of our community - but it's also hard to understand to see less woman in community while comparing with other comp. areas.. ).

Anyway, after four days (2 days goes to travelling by bus! :( ) there was the biggest award ceremony of FOSS in Turkey- there're six categories: "the most hardworking penguin of the year", "the best successful maintainer of the year", "the best institutional corporation of the year", "the most successful press of the year", "the best free software project of the year" and "the most successful application project by using free software".

Hmm, and i won "the most hardworking penguin of the year"! ;) There's a cute crystalline penguin sits on a wood panel. You can see what it's looking like from my blog entry: http://pinguar.org/blog/?p=16

Btw, I have a blog at here: http://pinguar.org/blog

And this week I'll have enough time to interested in my project properly ;)

Cheers,
