Perhaps next to the current active window, we could have icons of the other windows fading away, or an icon representing windows, which would bring up the alt-f2 style menu when clicked.

Something like:

Where {d} and {e} are icons of other apps running on this workspace.
The Icons would grow more opaque on hover, and when clicked would show the menu.

Thus, it wouldn't conflict with the AppMenu, and still provide the necessary functionality.
