some recent thoughts on gnome shell

hello.

i have been using gnome-shell during the last two month and would
like to give some new feedback: i am currently using gnome-shell on
debian squeeze ( 2.29.0-3 build Tue, 27 Apr 2010 )

as i said before i really love the gnome-shell, anyway here some
recent thoughts:

1) left panel: i think it should be possible to set tranparency
for the expandable panel on the left.

2) application launching: i think other people proposed that recently,
but i always liked browsing the application categories and it would
be great to see this in gnome-shell, too. especially if you have many
applications installed its very helpful not to browse them by alphabet
but by categories ( e.g. if you do not remember what their name was)

3) i am not sure how i actually add lauch icons of my own
scripts/programs which are not in the usual pathes. in metacity, you
can create a launcher on the desktop and drag it to a panel, this seems
not possible in any way anymore, which is a bit sad. i would really
like to add them either to the favourites or directly to the panel.

4) when i'm in the overview mode (hope this is the corretc term) i would
still like to use the top panel applets like "loudness". they are still
there but inactive. however if music plays while i am browsing
applications i don';t see why i shoulnd be able to adjust loudness
without zooming back into one of the desktops.

5) one problem i came across with using the "recent documents" is that
e.g. PDFs i have launched directly from the browser (into evince) appear
there, but clicking on them in "recent documents" just opens evince but
apperently the URL has not been saved.

so far for now,
startx
