Why would anyone want their panel on the bottom of the screen?
About 90% of all computer users migrating to Gnome are very accustomed
to the idea of having their panel there. And why shouldn't they be able
to have it there?

I do agree that most people are used to having their bar at the bottom,
but are you saying it should be moved down there by default? The way
the bar is currently designed, it would look out-of-place at the bottom
in my opinion (sorry if I'm misunderstanding you, but surely there's at
least one person that wants their main bar at the bottom). I do believe
that it should be move-able, but staying with it at the top as default
sounds like a logical choice to me.
The hotcorner part, though, I agree with. Choosing what corner's the
hot one is simple enough and is most likely already planned for the
future.
