I suspect it has to do with http://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-shell/commit/?id=dc5dcc6139e0f12fd88f2dc0ae292a1cf0bba506 I'm running Ubuntu 9.10 and GNOME Shell refuses to build anymore.
