It depends!  :-)

I got my Nokia E71 to synchronize with very little hassle by
installing eGroupware on my desktop machine, it 'just works'.  However
I agree that getting it working smoothly with Evolution (or even more
difficult Thunderbird/Lightning) can be a real pain.
