I have a Treo 650 and could not find a solution for this same problem on my Debian Lenny Linux machine. There is a program called Card Export II (I think), but it is not open-source and isn't free. IIRC, it was a pain in the ___ to set up.
But, I solved it with hardware: I purchased an external USB SD card reader which I use successfully. It plugs straight into the USB port and allows me to copy files to/from the SD card. Quite handy actually, and doesn't force me to mess with my pilot configuration.

Hello Gnome-Pilot-List!
Not even sure this is a probability though on other [less Freedom
oriented] OSes it is possible. This is a Palm Tungsten E2. I plug SD
cards for external storage but have not been able (as of yet) found an
'easy' method for pulling the photos, tunes, etc & ect..., off during
the hotsync with ANY tools that I am aware of being currently available
in the LXuniverse. Any help will be appreciated.
