Did you compile your own kernel, or did you install one of the fedora
kernel RPMs?  (What is kernel version is reported by 'uname -a'?)

There are known problems with the Fedora kernels - I think versions 687
and 681, at least.  See very recent postings to this list.

The solution is to downgrade your kernel (possibly to build 267, I can't
speak first-hand) or build your own kernel, using a plain 2.6.9 source
distribution and use the .config file from your current kernel rpm (in
/boot/config-something).
