Redhat 8.0 and Handspring Visor

Good morning,
	I have recently installed a clean version Redhat 8.0 - I used all of
the default settings for Workstation. I am attempting to get a
Handspring Visor to sync with Ximian Evolution. When I run Pilot
Settings - it asks me to set up a new device so I enter the appropriate
parameters -

Name: Cradle
Port: /dev/pilot
Speed: 57600
Timeout: 2
Type: Handspring USB

now I have already made the sym link
: /dev/pilot -> /dev/ttyUSB1
changed the permissions, owner and group.

I have also added
:/dev/visor -> /dev/ttyUSB1
:/dev/palm -> /dev/ttyUSB1

just in case :)

Then it goes into Pilot Identification - I select "Yes I've used sync
software before" and then it tries to get the username and id from the
visor. It hangs here and the visor itself times out after I hit the
hotsync button. Now I have tried this many different ways - trying to
hotsync before it talks to the visor, etc.

Here is the output to the logs:

<snip>

hub.c: USB new device connect on bus1/1, assigned device number 4
usbserial.c: Handspring Visor converter detected
visor.c: Handspring Visor: Number of ports: 2
visor.c: Handspring Visor: port 1, is for Generic use and is bound to
ttyUSB0
visor.c: Handspring Visor: port 2, is for HotSync use and is bound to
ttyUSB1
usbserial.c: Handspring Visor converter now attached to ttyUSB0 (or
usb/tts/0 for devfs)
usbserial.c: Handspring Visor converter now attached to ttyUSB1 (or
usb/tts/1 for devfs)
usb.c: USB disconnect on device 4
usbserial.c: Handspring Visor converter now disconnected from ttyUSB0
usbserial.c: Handspring Visor converter now disconnected from ttyUSB1

</snip>

so behind the scenes things look pretty good, to me at least :)

I just can't seem to get the software to talk to the visor.

Any suggestions?

TIA
Danny Collins
