As far as I understand your solution would work for individual
application help, but wouldn't allow for a global search.
True, Exporting a lot of random content outside your sandbox which will
be in the session-wide XDG_DATA_DIR strikes me as somewhat risky
though. Also the exact workings of the help system is quite desktop
specific, is it not. (I.e. it won't work for non-gnome apps.)
