This has made me think of something that Rhythmbox supports, which
Tracker would probably be even less suited to: remote files. Rhythmbox
has full support for importing files from any location that gnome-vfs
supports, like samba shares, SFTP, etc.
Tracker supports adding writable metadata to VFS files but it cant watch
or extract embedded metadata from them. (tracker does not use Gnome-VFS
but will return whatever file path and name you specify even if it is a
uri format or garbage!)
just to clarify, if the file path passed to Tracker starts with a '/'
then Tracker treats it as a physical file (which must exist and be
visible to Tracker). Anything else is treated as a virtual file and no
checks are done.
