[gnome-love] where do I start?

Hello,
        I was wondering the best docs to get started with.  I understand C
itself and have worked alot with java and perl.  I started reading the
libbonobo, CORBA and libxml docs but now I am feeling kindof lost.  I
have only wrote a few very small apps in GTK but I have alot of ideas I
want to start putting into code.
Any ideas on what docs and tutorials would be a good place to start?
The next best thing to that would definately be a small project that
doesn't have a whole lot of code wrote yet, this would make it easy to
get an idea for the design and how the pieces are working together, I
started reading the Evolution code but WOW, that's alot of stuff to try
and just jump into.  I also started reading the setup-tools code but I
found myself getting lost again so for now I am back to looking for good
docs.

Any input is very welcome.
