Here are the only odd lines in the log file (warnings only, there were
no errors):

(WW) NVIDIA(GPU-0): The EDID read for display device CRT-0 is invalid

(WW) NVIDIA(0): Unable to get display device CRT-0's EDID; cannot compute DPI
(WW) NVIDIA(0):     from CRT-0's EDID.

I suspect this is part of the problem, but I'm not sure what to do about it....
