RE: Why ALWAYS need to log in twice for gdm to let me thru?

First, from a console log (not X) delete /tmp/orbit-user. Then login to X. You may get one more instance of the "twice login" indident, but it should be fixed after the first such time.

If this fails, do the above and also do mv ~/.gnome/ ~/.gnome_bak, then login again.

Usually, the screwed up temp file fix solves the problem. By blowing out ~/.gnome/, you'll wind up with a default desktop configuration when you go back in.

Subject: Why ALWAYS need to log in twice for gdm to let me thru?

gdm ALWAYS wants me to log in twice. It rejects my
first attempt and then lets me thru on second.

Any ideas?

Chris

P.S. This is a Slackware 8 laptop with X 4.2. gdm
would not let ANYONE log in before I put
/opt/gnome/bin in PATH. I don't know if that
is relevant.
