Similar problem in Cygwin on Windows XP, but in Windows, it fails with "imp_gettext" and a load of other imp things. I find it has something to do with the function _(""), and generally things to do with that. By removing the lines, you may lose some debugging info, but it compiles, and works. This is for windows however, but it seems that there are similar problems for both.
