NEW to Gnome

I am both a Newbie to Linux and Gnome - and need Help with Gnome

I am running Red Hat 7.1 and the Gnome that came with it. I lost what I
can only describe as the gnome foot from the left of the bottom menu...
How can I get back?

Can Gnome share/use StarOffice with installed in/under (which is right?)

kde?
(if so, how?)

Going to set up SETI , have:

setiathome-3.03.i686-pc-linux-gnu-gnulibc2.1.tar
 folder: setiathome-3.03.i686-pc-gnu-gnulibc2.1

   READMExsetiathom

*  xsetiathome

setiathome-3.03.i686-pc-linux-gnulibc1-static.tar
 folder: setiathome-3.03.i686-pc-linux-gnulibc1-static

*  setiathome

Tried:

tar zxvf setiathome*

which was suppose to start the Installation process, but got a error:

gzip: stdlin: not in gzip format
tar: Child returned status 1
tar: setiathome-3.03.i686-pc-linu-gnulibc1-static.tar: Not found in
archive
tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors

Now what do I do?
