AFAIK mandrake 8.1 isn't yet supported by ximian - I think nat said they
would have it by the end of the month so do check their site regularly.
However mandrake has there own update tool called rpmdrake. If you point
that at (a mirror of) the mandrake 8.1 updates then it will pick up new
versions of gnome (and anything else in mandrake) as mandrake release
stuff.
So you have two choices - use rpmdrake now or wait for ximian to support
8.1.
