It doesn't matter if it happens in KDE; if the machine locks, it is
the kernel (or X, as Telsa points out) at fault. 

It's possible that the kernel/X bug only happens in GNOME, but that is
not GNOME's fault, it's just because GNOME happens to do whatever
random thing triggers the X/kernel bug.
