Top level submenu's hiding problem

Hello,

Lets get right to the point shall we :)

When I select off in the global pannel preferences (for instance next to
the applets menu) and click OK (or Try -> OK) and exit the menu it is
still there.

What am I doing wrong?

P.S. logging out of GNOME and logging in again doesn't produce the
desired result eighther.

PLEASE HELP!
