Yes, yes ! I got this just by upgrading to RH7.0, without helixcode
involved.
RH moved Xsession (and most other files in /etc/X11/xdm)
to gdm package,  and made separate xdm package with the lefotovers
I guess this screwed up rpm logic somewhere.

I may notice that upgrade to RH7.0 (from RH6.2) left half of my
services

failing on boot, and then sound did not work, cdrom did not mount,
network
was misconfigured, inetd was running simultaniously with xinetd, what
else ..
And  I could not login with gdm ! All were minor, but required half a
day
of comparing config files. I can imagine that people not comfortable
with /etc
could be in big pain.
