Failure to compile libwww on Solaris 2.7 with gcc

Reason this involves Gnome:
GtkHTML wants it, ideally
Symptoms:
Disgusting parse errors of time-related structures
: timeval, timestruc_t et al.
My Thoughts:
This probably has to do with the mixed 64/32 mode
of Solaris stuff and the complicated headers. I can
see the definitions of timeval, timestruc_t and the
like, but cannot figure what magic incantations of
CFLAGS I should use.
Questions:
1. Does anybody know what CFLAGS might solve the problem
2. What is the impact of not having libwww.a
