Panel disappeared

My gnome panel disappeared.

When I log on, I saw the gnome banner flashed.  But then no panel
comming up.  Desktop is blank.

I tried removing ~/.gnome.  When I log on, a new ~/.gnome is created.
But still no panel.  I also noticed that ~/.gnome/panel.d is missing.

Your help is hight appreciated.
