SuSE 6.4 gnome install not so great.

I have installed SuSE's 6.4 using gnome as my X-Window interface and find their
install seriously lacking. Few apps where installed compared to the more
complete and robust RedHat 6.0 and further it locks up the machine if I
minimize the disk browser or Netscape Navigator windows on the desktop. I had
noticed that earlier distro's from SuSE did not even include gnome in the
install routine. SuSE Linux 6.4 has been useful because it included just about
everything in the Linux world on its 6 CD's $29.95 US, RedHat's distro now has
limited contents. SuSE has changed it price, you now must pay $69.95 US for
that same package in version 7.0.

Does SuSE have a policy of not supporting gnome very well?
Would a complete download of all the latest gnome and apps fix the lack luster
install?
Would the latest SuSE 7.0 do the gnome install the justice it deserves?
Are there better questions to ask?
