problems while compiling

When I compile Gnome 1.2.4, make fails when trying to build the
help-browser (with --enable-gtkhtml-help).

It reports (i.a.) lots of "undefined references" in htmlgdkpainter.c, like
e_font_ascent and e_font_descent.

Where do these e_font_* functions come from?

I have gtkhtml 0.7 installed.
