All right! You're totally right, let me re-formulate the problem: I have sawmill/fish 0.31.1 running as my Window Manager. I think the integration is better with that one and it's not as heavy as enlightenment... Well, if I choose to have, on a "what sawfish/mill calls" Workspace more than one column/row, the problem discussed initially (fast column/row switching) crashes the whole stuff, and re-starts gnome. When using more than one workspace that doesn't happen though...
