I don't believe GNOME let's you have single click-icons.  Perhaps that
will be an option in the new file-manager coming out Nautilaus, but I
can't say for sure.  If you ask for it, though, I'm sure they'll add in
the option.  ^,^

The CTRL+right arrow thing would be dependent on the text-widget being
used.  I am not very familar with GNOME/GTK text-widgets, so I can't say
for sure.  There is one nice text-widget called GtkExText (I believe
that is its name), that should let you do stuff like that.  If not, just
ask the maintainer (a request on this list should be enough) and the
feature (or an option for it) will be more-than-likely added.

Of course, many GNOME/GTK apps don't use GtkExText, so it won't help
them, until their maintainers 'upgrade' to the newer widget.
