If you want to see the original definition, look at the AM_INIT_AUTOMAKE
line in the configure.in file of each project. For example, the entry
for gnome-libs is
AM_INIT_AUTOMAKE(gnome-libs, 1.0.52)
PACKAGE is set to "gnome-libs" and VERSION is set to "1.0.52".
