I think you should get it from /gnome/sources.
It except from the directory "testing","test" or "experimental",
all others should be latest and stable enough.
Also, make sure that you browse through all the mirrors. Some
mirrors does not contain the latest versions. ftp.gnome.org is not
accessable.
