source tarballs, which ones?

Hi, just about to switch from using .deb gnome to .tar.gz gnome.  Should I
be getting the .tar.gzs from /gnome-1.0/sources or from /gnome/sources?
Also, are there any gotchas I should be looking out for when making the
switch? I'm intending to remove the .dev versions of anything I compile of
course.
