Yes, if the /usr/lib/gconv/ directory is empty (or missing the right file)
it won't work.
However, I have a problem like that with xmms (a version of xmms with
i18n support I added); but the strange thing is that it only shows up
if I define a fontset on a gtkrc or xmmrc file; if I don't it works ok ?!
Maybe it is related ? (xmms isn't really a Gnome program but it uses Gtk+,
maybe the problem lies somewhere on Gtk+).
