Scwm (http://scwm.mit.edu/) is largely Gnome-compliant, can be made to
work almost exactly like fvwm2 if you so desire, and can communicate
directly with the Fvwm2 pager.  On top of that, Scwm's got all sorts of
other nifty features including a Constraint solver, a voice recognition
interface, and a ton of great "how did I ever get work done w/o this
feature" features like blinking xterms when builds fail (including
blinking in the fvwm2 pager, and playing a sound to notify you),
multi-window moves and tiles, etc.
