GNOME and Pager

I have a GNOME pager on the panel, and there are several buttons on the pager (gif file attached--7599 bytes; don't want to waste the bandwidth but pictures are worth of thousand words that helps in communicating.)

The buttons show that there are several windows open: (1) Compose: GNOME and Pager is minimized, (2) Netscape: Linux Center, and Netscape Mail and News are not minimized.

The maximized ones  almost overlap each other.  By clicking with mouse on the visible area of one window activates it and brings to the front.  But, if I click on the  buttons of active windows on the pager (the ones shown on the top with GNOME feet), the corresonding window does not come to the front.  For example, if Netscape: Linux Center window is in the front now, and if I click on the right hand top button with caption Netscape: Mail and News the later window does not come to the front!  But, if I click on the button with minimized window (e.g., Compose: GNOME and Pager), the corresponding window comes to the front.

Is there any setting that I could set to bring a window in the front by simply clicking the active button of the pager?

I have another question:  how do I capture error messages and warnings in the terminal?  I start with a terminal, and start  the X-server (startx).  After I exit from X-server, there are several error messages that I'd like to capture and report.

Thx.
