Re: win98 doesn't boot after Gnome install!!!



As far as your question regarding there being "code in gnome that
fiddles with the mbr of any device," I have no idea.  What I can tell
you is that my system was fine (able to boot into Windoze 98, NT,
or linux from the NT boot loader) before installing the gnome rpm's,
but after installing them and rebooting, Windoze 98 no longer boots.

Yes, I'm positive I didn't copy anything to /dev/hda1.  Seeing as
how, this is the second time that an install of GNOME screwed up
something in the boot record (the last time, the linux boot got
hosed, but I was able to fix that fairly easily), I'm finding
it hard to pinpoint where my actions were at fault.  Perhaps I should
have used LILO to boot into Windoze 98, NT, or linux, in the
first place, but it's a little late for that now.
(Actually, I'm not quite sure how to boot into NT if its boot
loader isn't used ...)
